CLOSER TO LIFE

I started tying bucktail Spin Flies after spending 5 years learning the benefits of a well-tied natural patterned fly. There was a glaring issue with fly fishing though.

You can’t cast far or easily.

​

Bucktail jigs took some of the benefits of a fly using vivid coloured feathers tied to a large painted lead head. The problem was the hook shanks needed to be grossly enlarged to support the weight of all that lead. This meant bucktail jigs were only applicable in the heavy game fishers world and smaller iterations often had the same issue with hook shanks wildly out of scale to the species you would want to target with a lure that small.

And so after many years of experimentation and tying, I have come up with…
